Hike Mt Rigi On The Trail Which Inspired Mark Twain
Mark Twain spent 10 weeks in Switzerland along Lake Lucerne, at the base of Mt Rigi. He later went on to hike up Mt. Rigi and wrote that Rigi’s views “were as enticing as glimpses of dreamland” and also wrote that “the scenery is beyond comparison beautiful”. In 2010 the Mark Twain trail was inaugurated and it starts by the lake under the oak tree where the author liked to sit, relax and reflect.
On our ascent, we will have several scenic outlooks of Lake Lucerne, Mt Pilatus, and other surrounding Mountains. We will pass by waterfalls, large rock formations, chalets as we hike through the forest and mountainous farmland.
** Switzerland offers a lot of places with great views from easy flat walks, to difficult alpine hiking trails. If you are interested in other hiking trips please contact me for ideas and a quote. **
ITINERARY
We will take the train or a boat to the trailhead, where we will begin our ascent.
Along the way, we will pass a Zen-Center complete with habit-clad nuns and the animals and gardens that they care for. We can stop here for a rest, refreshments and a unique experience with stunning views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding mountains.
After reaching Rigi Kulm (The top of the mountain), and perhaps a celebratory drink, we will take a cog train, gondola and boat back to your hotel.
* If the day of your visit coincides with a day that is blocked off on my schedule please contact me. I may be able to make arrangements.
