Swiss Wine Country…Hidden Gem – Why haven’t you heard of it before?

Switzerland is known worldwide for its mountains, skiing, watches, fondue and chocolate.  But few people outside of Switzerland know about its wine country.  Often, in these days of technology, trip advisor and bloggers, if it’s not well known then we think it must not be good.  Finding that hidden gem becomes harder and harder to find.  Even now as I write this, I feel a little guilty about letting the cat out of the bag…but for better or worse, my little blog shouldn’t have too much of an impact on the tourism of this area.

Don’t let its secretive nature fool you into thinking the wine isn’t good.  If you like white wine, then I am confident you will find a few wines that you will wish you could find at home.  The reason Swiss wine isn’t known around the world isn’t a matter of quality, but of quantity.  Since moving from the USA, I have realized that the Swiss are more concerned with quality over quantity.  The swiss make very good wine but compared to the rest of the renowned wine countries, they make just a fraction of the wine…but that wine is made with the swiss precision and care they are known for.  Since so little is made 99, and it is of the high quality that Swiss people demand about 99% of the wine made in Switzerland is consumed by the Swiss.  It’s simply too good to share.

What makes this region even better is the beautiful views over Lake Geneva, the French Alps reaching to the sky, the small one lane villages that make you feel like you stepped back in time and the stepped vineyards lining the lake.  Even if you don’t like wine…you will enjoy your visit!!
